Nothing is better then Homemade Milk Gravy. Living and growing up in the South Milk Gravy is put on almost everything. From Mashed Potatoes to French Fries or Rice. In the South we tend to take our Gravy seriously. So here is a simple way to make it.
Ingredients:
Cooking Oil
Flour
Milk
Directions:
I use the cooking oil I have fried chicken or pork chops or sausage in. it gives the gravy a better flavor. I leave the little crunchy bits from the meat in the pan. Take a spoon or whatever you are going to use to stir the gravy and loosen the crunchy bits from the bottom of the pan.
Then Add the flour you used to flour the meat with. it has the spices in it to give your gravy some extra flavor. Stir in the flour until its mixed into the cooking oil well.
Reduce the heat to low.
Then add the milk. Add enough milk so it will mix with the flour mixture. Stir constantly. if the heat is too high it will thicken into a paste, just remove it from the heat and add more milk.
Stir out all the clumps. When its done it will be thick and it will look like Gravy.
I like to eat my gravy with rice and corn and cutup pieces of the meat I cooked all layered in a bowl topped with my Homemade milk gravy. There is nothing better. Its southern comfy food for sure.
